    May 10, 1943 - February 4, 2018
William "Bill" Charles Abt, Jr. was born in Helena, MT on May 10, 1943 to William and Evelyn (Hedican) Abt. He lived a full life and passed away with his family by his side on February 4, 2018.
Growing up in Great Falls, MT, Bill began working for the Montana Power Company as a meter reader in high school and would hold numerous positions at MPC and Avista throughout a career that would span over 40 years. He worked his way to a Bachelor's Degree from the College of Great Falls while serving his country in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War. He ultimately earned a Master's Degree from Gonzaga University in 1993.
Bill was an avid cyclist, history buff, finance guru, amateur handyman, lover of all things Irish, and devoted family man. A dog lover, Bill always seemed to have treats in his pockets for any new four-legged friend he would come across. He was active for many years in the church community at St. Thomas More, where he touched countless lives through his kind generosity and devotion to others.
His greatest passion was spending time with his large family. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Lenington, on May 24, 1969, and over nearly 49 years of marriage, they watched their family grow to include 5 sons, their wives, and 10 grandchildren who endearingly called him their "Papa" (Chris and Krista, Dylan, Brandon, and Jordan of Vancouver, WA; Dennis and Shannon, Charlotte, Nathaniel, and William; Greg and Ali, Mackenzie; Mike and Robin, Henley; Jon and Dawnell, Katelynn, Dakota and his wife Sadie, all of Spokane). He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, and he is survived by his wife, their sons, and his sister Marcia and brother-in-law Jim Howard, and nieces and nephews.
His family could not have been blessed with a greater husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a little bit ornery, quite a bit stubborn, and pretty much perfect. He was a great man, and he will truly be missed. Taken too early, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Memorial Services will be Friday, February 9, 2018 at 11am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 505 W. St. Thomas More Way, Spokane, WA. Arrangements have been entrusted to:
